The Regional EMS Councils Emergency Preparedness Program encompasses Mental Health Programs, CBRNE Educational Training and Emergency Preparedness Planning for services 73 EMS agencies spanning the five boroughs of NYC.
Mental Health
Mental Health Programs includes the operations of our Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) for peer support and referral services for our regional EMS providers as well as educational services on the causes and affects of stress on the EMS responder.
The mission of the NYC REMSCO Critical Incident Response Team is to provide a corps of trained volunteers and professionals to help EMS providers in the 5 boroughs cope with the effects of traumatic stress caused by a critical incident. The Team consists of mental health professionals, EMS peers, and clergy. Each team member is trained and experienced in his/her own field and has undergone a specifically prescribed course of instruction in Peer Support, Emergency Service Stress Intervention and Critical Incident Stress Management. This service is completely FREE to all New York City EMS Providers and their families.
The heart of the Critical Incident Response Team's services is its 24 hour EMS Hotline. The hotline is manned my an EMS Peer Supporter and is totally confidential.

CBRNE Educational Training
CBRNE Educational Training includes both the development and coordination of training programs at the awareness and operational levels. To date, the Regional EMS Council CBRNE training programs have trained over 600 EMS providers through in-class and online training. The program has also rolled out NIMS educational tools in trainer level programs designed to promote in-house training and promote the NIMS program. NYC Regional EMS Council training programs are open to all NYC EMS Providers and are offered in conjunction with the NYC Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Emergency Preparedness Planning
Emergency Preparedness Planning includes participation in citywide planning activities for both man-made and natural emergency occurrences. Emergency Planning programs are conducted in conjunction with NYC emergency agencies such as the Office of Emergency Management, FDNY, NYPD and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. This coordination allows for greater interoperability of services as well as uniformity of response and training standards.
